IN / AT the BEGINNING / END

What's the difference between ...?

- BEGINNING
  • At the beginning (of) = it's used for the time and place when something begins.
  • In the beginning = at first and it suggests a constrast with a later situation
- END
  • At the end = it simply refers to POSITION at the end of something.
  • In the end = it suggests that something happens after a lot of changes, problems or uncertainty.
    • We made eight different plans for our holiday, but in the end we went to Brighton.
